Why Brain Tune Exists

Before Brain Tune ever opened its doors, Joe Matessa was a parent searching for answers.

After years of navigating ADHD with his teenage son through medications, therapy, and countless other approaches, Joe discovered MCN. The transformation was so life-changing for both his son and family that he immediately knew this was something he needed to further pursue.

Today, Brain Tune combines innovative technology with compassionate care to help people find relief from symptoms, improve brain function, and move forward with greater confidence and hope.

More Than One Path to a Better-Functioning Brain

At Brain Tune Columbus, our work is centered on supporting the brain and nervous system so they can function with greater balance, efficiency, and resilience. Our core approach combines Microcurrent Neurofeedback and Brain Gauge to support brain function across a wide range of needs—from managing stress and improving focus to supporting cognitive performance and overall brain health.

Our work extends across three specialized pathways, each designed to address specific goals and populations:

Sports Performance

Train the brain.
Elevate performance.

Sports Performance applies Brain Tune’s approach to the demands of competition, helping athletes develop the mental skills that can influence performance on and off the field. By combining brain training with nervous-system support, athletes can work toward greater focus, mental agility, faster processing, confident decision-making, and the ability to perform under pressure.

Brain Tune Concussion Recovery Logo

Concussion Recovery

Support the brain. Rebuild confidence. Return to what matters.

Concussion Recovery provides a brain-focused approach for individuals navigating the challenges that can follow a concussion. By supporting brain function and nervous-system regulation while using Brain Gauge to measure and track cognitive performance, the goal is to help individuals better understand their progress and support their return to school, work, sport, and everyday life.

Breathwork

Use your breath as a tool for nervous-system regulation.

Breathwork brings the brain-body connection into the work through intentional breathing techniques designed to support the central and autonomic nervous systems. It gives individuals a practical skill they can use to manage stress, promote calm, improve awareness, and support greater balance in their everyday lives.

One Brain. One Nervous System. Many Ways to Support It.

While each pathway has a different focus, they share the same foundation: the brain and nervous system work together, and supporting one can influence how we think, feel, perform, and respond.

Whether your goal is to optimize athletic performance, navigate concussion recovery, develop greater control over your stress response, or simply support better brain health, Brain Tune Columbus provides different ways to support your brain’s natural ability to adapt, regulate, and perform at its best.

Joe Matessa, ICT

Founder • Certified IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback Technician

A native of Pittsburgh and a graduate of Bowling Green State University, Joe and his family have proudly called Columbus home since 2011. He believes that everyone deserves hope, compassionate care, and the opportunity to live a healthier, more fulfilling life. These values continue to guide his work every day.

In 2023, Joe was diagnosed with ADHD, PTSD, and later severe heart disease, making medication no longer an option. Through IASIS MCN, he found greater focus, better sleep, and a renewed sense of peace without medication.

Before founding Brain Tune Columbus, Joe worked in the medical technology industry and has remained deeply committed to serving his community. He founded the nonprofit Family Pride Network in 2015 and currently serves as Board President of BraveMen, Inc., supporting men and families affected by prostate cancer - a cause close to his heart following his own diagnosis in 2013.

Today, Joe is passionate about helping individuals and families discover hope, healing, and a better quality of life through personalized, compassionate care.

Chris McManus, ICT

Certified IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback Technician

Chris brings a lifetime of teaching, service, and compassion to his role at Brain Tune. After earning both his bachelor's and master's degrees in Music Education from Capital University, he spent more than 33 years teaching music and serving as a Minister of Music, dedicating his career to helping others learn, grow, and thrive.

His journey to Brain Tune began with his own family. After witnessing the life-changing impact IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback had on one of his sons, Chris experienced the benefits himself while seeking relief from chronic fatigue after several bouts of COVID-19. Improved sleep, increased energy, and renewed well-being inspired him to become a certified provider and help others discover the same possibilities.

Chris's calm, patient nature helps clients feel comfortable from the moment they walk through the door. He is passionate about creating a welcoming environment where people can find hope, healing, and a renewed sense of well-being.

Outside of Brain Tune, Chris is a Lecturer at The Ohio State University, and enjoys cooking, reading, evening walks with his two dogs, and spending time with Joe and their family.
